340 TTI header starter clearance

I have a 73 Challenger 340, 727 auto with TTI Step headers, part # TTI-340BE-C2. Has anyone used a powermaster 9523 starter with this engine, trans and header combination? Most mini starters have the solenoid on the pan side and have a rubber boot on the wire from the solenoid to the starter motor. That boot touches the most inboard tube of the headers. See attached photo.

Other starters I have test fit have the solenoid on the outboard side too close the other 3 header tubs. I have not tried the powermaster 9523 yet and was looking for some help before I go and buy one. Thanks.

Have you tried a starter from a wrecking yard for $20-30 these work great , I just swap in new contacts before I install them

The results of my study.

First I did not want to use the original or stock starter because the headers would have to be removed if it ever needed replacing. When this was my daily driver from 78 to 88 I had to replace the starter numerous times so I want something I can replace easily. Getting one from a junk yard is great but I have not found any standard starter that does not have some type of clearance problem.

The starter shown in the original post was a typical Ultima or Bestest starter. The following pictures show a PowerMaster 9413, the Summit 820337, and the PaowerMaster 9523. Both PowerMasters have an adjustable mounting plate and are shown in the position with the most clearance.

Best starter that I could find for this application was the PowerMaster 9523 adjusted to the last position as shown in the pictures.

And the Winner is PowerMaster 9523 with OK clearance for solenoid and rubber boot.

Mounting plate must be turned CCW to the last bolt position.

Just did this recently and had the same issue. Same combination you have. The rubber grey boot hit the headrrr.

On the starter you can rotate the housing by removing 3 alien head screws and moving it. I placed mine in the last position. And it fit fine with no hitting. I still couldn't put in the starter blanket though but hey wth
