Alternator will charge battery only if I do not turn on electric fans in Be Cool radiator. I can turn fan off and alternator will test around 13.8 volts and charge the battery, even with headlights on. However, when I switch on the fans, alternator output drops into the 12 volt range and battery drains. I get the same result with different batteries. Alternator belt is tight. I do not know the amperage of my alternator but it appears to be a normal sized unit. I think I need a stronger alternator. The car is a 1971 440 six pack clone that was built to run. Based on this post, does anyone agree that a stronger alternator should be my next step? If so, any suggestions for a chrome plated model, both make and amps? I think the electric fan, stereo and electric fuel pump are the only electircal add ons.
