Hopefully your original carpet is still in good shape. Would be a cool and seemingly pretty unique feature of these early build cars to be able to retain.
Looking forward to it. I have been following your build thread. You have a very cool car (even cooler now that I know it's an early build car) and I'm definitely jealous of how clean that thing is, being a So. Cal car.
Thank you!
I wasn't aware of the carpet issues either until I switched mine. After opening the box I started ranting online about "incorrect" reproduction parts and got a bunch of responses from guys asking WTF I was talking about, stating that the partial ribbed heel pad was correct, and...
Cool, IIRC, you would be the fourth instance I'm aware of to support this 1970 early build variation. At least three of the four were Barracuda/Cudas, but not sure about the last one.
Oops, fixed it. The 5 that I added to the end is actually in the Build to Spec. For column.
@Surfcuda, any chance that you have the original carpet still in your car? I have seen a few cases now where early build 70 cars like ours had carpet with a different rubber heel pad than was used on...
:welcome:
Great story! I also bought a 70 E-Body 383 four speed car when I was a senior in high school and still have it, but mine wasn't nearly as nice as yours and still isn't almost 40 years later...:(
Looking forward to some present day pics of the red car and some of the purple one too!
Have they always been inaccurate, or is this something that changed more recently?
I'm betting on bad ground connections between the temp and oil pressure sending units and the block. Maybe someone used teflon tape or too much sealant on the threads?
If they have always been inaccurate, you...
This test is fine, but you should also do as Challenger RTA suggested and verify that the ground connection between the sending units and engine block are good. An existing, but weak, ground connection would could cause your problem. Use a jumper wire to connect from battery ground to the...
I would use Ospho for that. A quart bottle is less than $20 at the local hardware store and should be more than enough for your floor boards engine compartment.

Considering those compression numbers, are you certain that the black plugs aren't due to burning oil instead of running too rich? If you are burning oil, I can't imagine that the O2 sensor would last very long.
@Flathead31coupe
I think that I have a decent set of the snap in cowl vent grills if you are interested. I'd let them go for a lot less than the $220 that Classic Industries is charging.

Great thread! I'm in a similar boat on the paint situation, so definitely interested in seeing where that journey takes you. Good luck with it!
Congrats on getting something so far gone back on the road so quickly. It looks great.
Very impressive timeline on your car, especially considering that most of the work had to happen after the girls were in bed. Been there and done that, and my car still isn't painted!!
Do you know if your tach is using the original circuit board or has it been upgraded to use newer electronics, like the ones from Real Time Engineering? RTE offers a replacement circuit board with a calibrator built into it.

No idea if it is "correct" or not, but I am using one of these rubber grommets from Detroit Muscle Technologies in my Cuda. It is much nicer than the cheap plastic one that came with my ACC carpet.
