Hi Guys,

I'm installing new inner and outer Tie Rods on my 71 challenger and I would like to know what the proper torque specs are? I hear it's 40 lbs but that seems like I lot it compresses the boot I think too much. I've also heard 35lbs. What is it?

On all of the old Chevys that I've done I usually just go past the castle nut holes to snug and install the cotter pin and call it a day.

What are your thoughts? I just want to make sure it's right? Thanks

Dave

Per the factory service manual, 40 ft-lbs. Don't worry about compressing the boot, it's rubber. The key is seating the tie rod end stud.
