Ammeter issues

Where is the best place to discount ammeter, I believe mine went bad
Can't get car to charge needle stays a little on discharge side
Checked alternator, new voltage regulator, really don't want to pull dash
73 Challenger

By discount do you mean disconnect ? The main power runs through the Ammeter. If it is bad, nothing will work. You should pull the gauge cluster, not the dash. It is very simple. Then do an Ammeter bypass. Here is some info. It is normal for the ammeter to show a slight discharge at idle with a factory charging system. One way to increase the voltage output at idle is to go with a smaller alternator pulley. This will speed up the alternator rpm without increasing the idle speed.
