i have a 70 Challenger that I preparing for paint, the car had mostly original paint but I have been told by a Mopar aficionado that the dimensions of the tail stripes are incorrect on the car based on his experience. Here is the tail stripe that was on my car...

Correct.
The blue car to the left has a white bee stripe just like the diagram.
Stripe goes down first, then car color.

What you are showing in your photo is accurate, although not what the engineers told the factory to do. The drawing shows what they wanted, but I have seen many (including my own) that have the stripe continued into the recess.
Personally, i think the ones that are cut off at the ends look odd.
My guess is there was a tape 'mask' that the laid on the car and it was longer than the stripe was supposed to be, so instead of trimming it off the line workers just wrapped it under.
Remember that the stripe color was painted first, taped off, then the rest of the body color was painted afterwards.

By the way, i think my car may have come from the same dealer in Alexandria. Do you know anything about the dealer?

I sure don't know anything about the dealer, it is no longer in business under that name I think it's owned by a big auto group now...

This is an original paint car and the stripe stops above the recess.

That is a nice car! It's amazing how many human error variables I've seen since I started researching...

Don't you know the problem is everyone now a day's is Mopar aficionado/Expert. Especially when it comes to E-bodies. You think them guy's on the line really followed handouts. I've had 11 '70 Challengers and 3 of them have been unmolested cars. And they were all different with lots of problems right from the factory. BTW looks like a nice car your working on.
