Hello y'all, Need help verifying engine, I was told it's a 383 big block. right now I have what appears to be 2468130.10 on the driver side of block. And the other appears to be 0D123818 on the passenger side of block down by the oil pan. Any help would be awesome
I'm buying a 70 challenger and I'm trying to find out everything about this motor and what it came out of.

246810 is a 383. The other number is a truncated VIN# and would match the last six digits of the car/truck it came out of.

It's in the challenger but does not match the vin of car. So non number matching. Now I'm trying to figure out what 383 it is and what year.

Maybe, but don’t get your hopes up. The last six digits are the sequence number and could be from anything that had a 383. The first digit could be the year (70) or not; but there should be a casting date on the block. The second digit, D, does not match a Challenger , JS23 / JH23. But surely someone here has a definite answer.

The engine came out of a 1970 model that was built in Belvedere Illinois which iirc was a plant for C bodies.

The partial vin by the oil pan starts with “0” which is 1970 and then it’s followed by “D” which is Belvedere plant. The rest of the numbers after that are particular to 1 car so they don’t mean much in this case.

Ok thanks. But I looked at the link above that moparleo above sent me. When looking at it it says F is for 1970 and D is for 1967. So how does 0 mean 1970? But I did see that D was also that belvedere plant in another source..im just confused. But I appreciate everyone's help of course...anyone got answers id love to hear them
Thanks

F is for 1970 and you’ll find that elsewhere on the block but when you’re talking about the actual vin of the car the year designation is simply the last digit of the year. In this case 197”0”. The 6th digit in vin during this era will always be the 4th digit of the given year. The “F” you’re looking for is on a machined pad near the front of the passenger side head under the head of the distributor.

My vin is JS23NOE125851
If the motor was for your car the numbers on the motor would match the last 8 characters of your cars VIN, i.e. it would be 0E125851. There should be a number matching that on your transmission as well.
