Getting ready to swap a newer a833OD into my 74 challenger. The transmission has the dual mount positions in the tail shaft, so that’s all good.

the fellow doing the work noted that the pistol grip shifter I got when I bought the car looks to be from a B body. If that is the case, will it fit/work?

thanks!

The shifter is the same for the 71-74 E and B bodies. 70 B is different.

Brewer's site shows the difference and they would be able to tell you if it can be made to work if for the wrong year. I imagine it is a combo of linkage rods, levers, and the shifter lever length to make it work because the shifter forks in the trans need the same amount of rotation regardless.

You need to use the rear mount on the trans and the short pistol grip, anything else will look dumb and potentially not work very well (will hit the dash not allowing you to shift).

This is not true. 71-4 B-body has 2 shifter handles while the e-bodies have only one...

It would not be correct or look right but you can use the front mount on the trans & the matching rods & the bench seat shifter from a B body in an E body

I would think that the shifter would come very close if not hit the dash using a B body bench shifter, but I have never done it so I am not sure.
