I picked this up a couple weeks ago:

1970 Plymouth Barracuda
383 HO 4-bbl (don’t have it, unfortunately)
4 speed with pistol grip
8 3/4 posi rear end
B5 blue with a white vinyl top
White interior
Air Conditioning
Manual steering and brakes

The plan:

Full restoration-ish. Some upgrades here and there, but I want to keep it looking stock. Especially the color combo, which I think is beautiful.

I have a 440 6 pack to build and put in it. I plan on keeping the flat hood if the 6 pack setup fits underneath.

I am a student at McPherson College, I hope to have this car at least in paint by my senior year. We have a big car show on campus at the end of each year, so that is my goal.

Thanks for any advice you have along the way! I’m learning through this experience while also learning in classes, so bear with me on some of it.

So far I have gotten it all cleaned up and started on A-pillars. I have gotten the left pillar done. The way I did it wasn’t definitely not the easiest...any advice? I wanted go avoid pulling the roof skin for structural reasons, and the drip rail and roof rails are both rusted so I figured I would cut those and the roof around the pillar to make it easier to install it.

It turned out pretty good, just was not the easiest process. Any advice before I tackle the other side would be amazing.

Good job on the A pillar; I would pull the roof skin, and drip rails; easy to drill out the spot welds along the drip rails and window openings; I don’t think the skin has much structural strength. Then you can treat the rust on the inner structure. AMD (auto metal direct) makes an excellent roof panel. I’m sure some of the regulars are tired of my photo album, but I think pics 125 to 135 may be helpful to you.

Does anybody know where there is a sale on AMD stuff? It is kind of expensive... It looks like he will also need an upper wiper cowl.

Thank you so much! Your advice is appreciated.

I already have that wiper panel, it’s next after the pillars. But a sale site would be nice for sure. I need basically everything else....including the very expensive left frame rail.

Actually it looks like Classic Industries is having a sale right now, but I don’t know the quality of their frame rails / body panels..

$300 for the LF rail, with promo code.

Your work on that left A pillar looks damn nice. Good work! Year One has 25% off until midnight Wed 5/16 but I don't know if they carry AMD, but.....their shipping costs suck.

Yes, I don’t use them if possible, due to their shipping... seems like they gouge you.

AMD parts are the best replacement parts available
Look for vendors that offer free shipping. I have purchased some of my AMD panels from tamraz, a vendor on e bay. He offers free shipping and pretty fast delivery. Be aware that some vendors that offer free shipping to a commercial address only for the larger body parts.
Nice work on the pillar. Wish I had your skills.

I have ordered most of my AMD parts through Summit Racing or Jegs. Most items 10% cheaper and free shipping over $99.
