Nope , the stamping was on the deck in front of the right / passenger side head on all B engines

Similar to this pic. I just picked one online.
Where in relation to distributor?

What does the letter I front of displacement mean

What do other stampings mean? Dates?

I’ll see if I can find one of my old year one books. And may be able to find online now. I haven’t played with any 383’s since late 70’s. If memory serves, we need the casting number on the block as well.
Sorry I couldn’t be of more help at the moment.

You may already have this information.
What I can find without getting in the attic. Do you have a pic of the engine pad numbers? I can’t find anything on an “I” so far.

Exactly. There should be numbers on the rail where the oil pan bolts up too.
As far weather it’s a forged or cast crank, should have numbers on the crank. Also, the balancer can be a tell tell sign. Just for fun, this was my second mopar 1968 Roadrunner 383, headers, 727 transmission with transgo manual valve body, 4.30 suregrip rear with line lock. 12.57 1/4 on 10 inch cheaters. I’ve always liked the 383’s
