Hi there , I am posting for the first time on this forum. I recently aquired a 1970 4 speed 340 Challenger. A pretty original car . Needs a little tlc but I am keeping it the way it is. Only a new carpet and one Seat cover. The previous owner Did Some work on the transmission. But I think he or the shop installed another drive shaft. The slip yoke is 3” out of the transmission. This is the polished part from the seal. Does anyone have the right driveshaft ( I guess it is the 45,6”) ? Or do you know the correct length? If someone has the right length and wants to sell Please let me know or If you have any other suggestions. Thanks ! Marc Ps I live in the Netherlands

A quick search of the internet for a driveshaft length chart shows 45.60, 45.79, 45.85. With a 340 and 8-3/4 rear, 727 or 833 trans.

If the d/s is 45.6 long it is possible the trans has been swapped to a 904; or a different rear axle maybe?

The shifter mount in the picture looks like it's over lapping the end of the Transmission, and it doesn't look right to me from what I remember of where the mount plate bolts on to the Trans. I don't have a picture of a 4 speed transmission and the rear shifter mount to compare to, anyone with a picture?
What's your driveshaft length centre to centre of the u joints?

I just looked on the net, and the mount location is very close to the rear of the tailshaft, maybe I'm wrong and it's just the drive shaft is to short, but still it just doesn't look right somehow. It's sad to get old and have your memory play tricks on you!

The shifter mount is in the right location for an E-body, at the very end of the extension housing. Looks like to me the drive shaft is a good 3" too SHORT. See pic of mine.

Moparlee good picture, I see your shifter mount plate is a lot different than Marc's, maybe that's what is looking different to me.
I does look like the driveshaft is 3" too short.

Hi Guys, thanks for your answers and your research. So i was right that the shaft is too long. Best I can do is to look for a drive shaft with the right length or a longer one and shorten it to the right length. I Did Some research and it is not the good way to lengthen the shaft.

Glad that you found the right length . The service manual doesn’t mention the 340 driveshaft length

Hey Matt , didn’t install them yetI am now first busy trying to get everything correct mechanically. Before getting a license plate over here I need to change a few things and I am busy solving the problem with the slip yoke ( I posted a thread )
