I left the ignition in the on position and forgot about it for a lot longer than i should have and my son noticed some wires getting hot and smoking. I touched the coil and it was smokin hot. I unpluged the 8 pin connector under the dash as it was warm and I thought maybe that was the cause of the smoke he saw. When i plugged everything back the way it was the car would turn over but not start. As the coil got so hot I bought a new one and put it in, still no spark. I have a MSD ignition with 3 wire connector plugs to a little black MSD box (2" x 1 1/2" apprx size) between coil and distributor. Coil has 12 volts to + and - sides with key in on position no spark from coil noticed or at spark plugs. Could I have fried the distributor?
