Tail pipe size?

Hello,
I was wondering what the correct tail pipe size would be used on a 1971 Challenger with a stock 340 with automatic transmission? Would it be 2 inch or 2 1/2 inches? This would be the pipe section only that goes over the rear axle.

It should be 2 1/4 inches on the axle over pipe.
