I have a bb 727 (1967 383 2bbl) and a 1976 truck (u-joint flange 400/440 short tail) version to build. Placing this in my 71 Challenger 426H. Any thoughts on pros/cons of each. I will be running on street with mild convertor.

I would go with the newer version, it will have the most recent upgrades done to it.
As a running change in 1975, Chrysler added a nylon frame regulator valve screen. For the 1976 cars, they used a new, more effective low-reverse servo seal without changing the part number.

  • On the A-727, the spline pressure angle changed from 45° to 37.5° for greater strength; a thicker front pump housing gasket (from 0.15" to 0.21" thick) helped prevent gasket blow-out. These could be used on past transmissions.

The 76 short version will not have the factory brackets cast into it for the factory auto shifter. I would load all the "guts" from the 76 into the 67 case. That is if the 67 case has the brackets and you want the factory shifter.

There were many TF changes/updates from 67 to 76. Research will tell you what to combine for the best outcome. What amount of power are you asking this 727 to handle? That will help determine your path also.
