noticed a fuel leak on my 1970 440 six pack carb. was dripping around the fuel inlet into the rear carb fuel bowl.
I pulled off the fuel line and went to tighten it, just find it spin and fall out-- inlet threads are stripped on the bowl!!!
I'm searching for a fuel bowl and inlet plug replacement but I can't find the exact part number I need for the bowl (pecularily, I can't find any search result for the stamped model number either). the carb itself is stamped as model 12R-4254B. I think the 6 pack setup is originally off a 69 1/2 year A12 car.

I think this might be it but I want to be sure before I buy. being sure will help me search the internet for a better price too.

So you have Vacuum controlled outboards ?
That bowl is correct , center hung without the accelerator pump.
I doubt you will find a better price ,there is no other source unless you can find a good used one .

If it can help, a while back I received a response from Holley sales to call the Holley Tech Line and ask for "Jason" to have a replacement outboard bowl shipped to me. Not sure if that's still viable.
34R 6240A was the engineering number for the standard outboard replacement bowl they provided me. I called, I was 14th in queue, went on "indefinite hold"!

FWIW, There is another no pump provision bowl with dual feed taps but the sight plug is on the wrong side and a bit higher. I just replaced this one.
I can't make out that 4th digit. 34R (?) 4842B

thanks a lot! aside from fitting correctly, getting the one with the plug on the left/driver side (so that the fuel line can do on the right/passenger side) was a big concern for me because it doesn't seem blatantly obvious in the product description.

i do believe they are vacuum controlled outboards. they got that big ol' disc on the side (if that's what the vacuum controller is).
sorry, i'm a young guy still learning about these old toys.

i know it's definitely center hung. not sure what the accelerator pump is?

i was told it was 69.5 & vacuum secondaries which is why i've always believed it! never thought to question it. i guess it could be 70 also then?
i can take more detailed pictures (see above post of pics) if it helps determine it.

thanks for the info friend!
the inside of my original bowl looks like it's stamped: 34R4 649 B
i'll call holley and try to confirm also. give them my model number and cross ref. good idea!
are those pics of your replacement? looks like the left/driver's side plug is external. my plugs are up inside the inlet. safe to assume the replace uses an external one then? can i assume that it comes with the plug or should i be fixin' to buy that separate ya think?

i guess i forgot to mention that the base on the backside was the 12R-4254B stamp, assumed it was the model.
the top is stamped D-1565 and 6R 3406B. i guess i'll go look up this one also...

My guess it will come empty from Holley as my center carb ECS bowl did from Chicago Carburetor.

If they have 'em, some refurbish outfits will sell bowls empty and you furnish the parts while others sell them "populated" (ready to bolt on).

are those pics of your replacement? l
No, that's the one I was running since I bought the setup in '78. I finally replaced it last year.

Here's the bowl that replaced that dual feed.........

some reference may be helpful............

Yes you have vacuum secondaries & do not need the accelerator pump which is cast into the bowl but not drilled through .

All production line 6 pack outboards are vacuum operated.

3400+ 1969 A12 cars made, not that rare. Just desirable and valuable.

go find an original road test in a magazine. They all have many shots of the carbs. You’ll see the vacuum diaphrams.

I found a solution to this problem so I'm posting for documentation in case anyone has a similar question.

I called Holley directly and they really had nothing to offer. I described the situation in detail and the service guy had no leads for products from Holley themselves; he did explicitly say that the couple replacements I found in their website would not work. he said to find an original for sale (ugh, difficult!) but also gave me a couple company names that sell remanufactured ones.

daytona parts 386-427-7108
allstate carb 631-234-8327

I ended up going with a replacement from Allstate Carburetor. their website was easy to browse.
$95, arrived quickly in a few days. I called before purchase and their customer service verified this was the correct one versus the Chevy tripower which has the fuel inlet on the wrong (drivers) side. bolted right up and works great! came with all the bowl internals too-- needle and seat already adjusted, float, etc. The inlet fuel line fitting was the wrong size (too large) for my stock fuel line fitting to screw into but luckily the one from my original bowl was intact and screwed right in. quick delivery, cheap, worked great-- can't recommend enough.

I looked at the Chicago Carburetors ones but they were more expensive, estimated weeks to deliver, and came without internals.

Another option is calling Holley for a replacement bowl for list number 4672 (current re-issue of the ’71 outboards). Made that call earlier this year, sounded like they pulled a bowl off a production unit, came complete with float and related fittings/hardware. Price was reasonable, shipping quick.
