Interested in knowing what specifically is the difference between a 1971 383 2 brrl and a 383 hipo motor.
Thanks.
Thanks.
I know the HP stamps are just that, a stamp. Just a little sarcastic humor...evidently very little!HP stamp means nothing, all blocks are the same.
Thought I might mention that the 1971 383 2bbl used a externally balanced cast crankshaft and the 383 HP was a forged crank.
I think all 440's are externally balanced but I see what your saying Cast vs forged
Ouch, that will open a hugh can of worms.
67-72 440s are forged internally balanced. 70-72 6bbl are forged with an external balance. 73 has some forged internally balanced and the HP engines have 6bbl HP rods and are forged with a externally balanced crank. 74 and later uses externally balanced cast cranks. All years of 440's with manual transmissions are internally balanced forged cranks. This being GENERALLY true, I'll bet there are oddball engines in some years.
I just got done rebuilding a totally stock 71 383 2 bbl. It had a forged crank and internally balanced. I didn't think they made the switch to cast crank until the 400Thought I might mention that the 1971 383 2bbl used a externally balanced cast crankshaft and the 383 HP was a forged crank.
