Finally back on the 318. This was in a gasket kit. Felt and thin "ring".

Nothing like it on the engine when I disassembled it. I'm assuming it goes between the balancer and timing cover?

Yes, it's used for the timing cover seal. Sometimes the crankshaft nose seal area gets worn and the sleeve can be installed to prevent leaks. This is a more common problem with cast iron crankshafts like the 318 and 360 then forged crankshafts. Even so, it's pretty rare on Mopars. I ground crankshafts for a couple years and don't remember a Mopar crankshaft needed the seal. You probably don't need it.

Actually I think the thin sheet metal cup goes on the dampener and not the crankshaft. My mistake.
That's correct. It's a fix for harmonic balancers/dampeners that have a groove worn in them from the timing cover seal. I've used a couple of them over the years.

Thanks guys. I think I'll consider it "extra parts" and move on to the next thing I don't understand.
