That looks like the one with the boot. As I recall, the boot was called a "dust boot". Some transmission builders I dealt with would only use this seals, others would use either the booted or non-booted type. Most overhaul gasket & seal kits came with the non-booted type.
A STOCK 11" 440 converter is rated by the factory at 18-2100 stall. A bit more is will be found if and when you increase the power of the engine. Not knowing where you live, I'd also contact some of the other converter builders, like Dynamic or PTC. Make sure you give them ALL the information...
Unless you've got a later model(the A618) all 46RH/RE, and 47RH/RE (the A518 series) there are only two extension housing seals, one with a boot, and one without a boot. The outside diameter of either seal is 2.503" and is the same extension seal used on the 727(1965-01). Go to your local...
If my failing old memory serves me correct, the front drum and front band, are a HEMI only items. The front band is NOT SOLID, but a split band. Hard to get unless you've got a rebuildable core. The band is wider and so is the drum.
It is known as a double wrap band, and according to their...
Yes, your converter builder is partly correct. Just make sure that when you have it built, you tell him what engine you've got as the small block is balanced differently than the big block. Stall wise, the 340 would stall around 2300-2400, and most 440's stalled between 1800-2100, depending...
A stall converter will depend on what has been done to your engine. Any quality performance converter rebuilder will ask you a lot of questions about YOUR setup, and if he doesn't avoid him. I disagree with Leo about a transmission builder knowing about converter replacement other than stock...
This is my Challenger that I purchased from the original owner in 2002. He parked in his garage in 1980-1981. From 1978 until the day I bought it, he had put less than 3000 miles on it. When I brought it home, the speedo read 32504 miles. Other than a complete cleaning and wax job, tires and...
To do the pressure check, you'll need 2 pressure gauges that read from 0 to 100PSI and also a 0-300PSI. I'd also recommend you get a manual on the transmission if you haven't got one. ATRA has a good one and I'm sure there are others.
The transmission should be at operating temperature and...
Have I missed something? A "TV CABLE" on a 727? I've had lots of MOPARS and worked in the transmission/converter industry for years and never saw one on a 727.
I wonder how reputable the shop is.
Sounds to me like the converter isn't balanced properly. Chryslers flex plates where never balanced, as the engine was either externally or internally balanced. It depended on the crank shaft. Cast iron cranks had converters that had weights on them.
Interesting converter. I went to the...
Sounds like the converter is balanced wrong.
From the factory Chrysler never used a balanced flex plate. Your 440 from the factory had a cast crank, and a cast crank needs to have a weighted converter. It would have 1 large triangluar weight of 100 grams. When you ordered the converter, where...
I'd look for a 340/360 small block transmission, with the 360 easier to find I'm sure than one for a 340. Any small block 727 (make sure it's a non lockup unit) and you'll be fine. I presume you're junk yard hunting so most transmissions found there will need to be rebuilt. Do a complete...
I'm attaching a specification sheet that will help all who are looking to either put in their first high stall, or who are in need of a higher stall converter.
Whatever you do, don't B.S. when you fill this sheet out, as it will effect the converter you are getting. Don't guess at what or...
Without a tach, it's very difficult to know where the converter usually stalls.
I'm going to repost a specification sheet we used to determine the high stall that matched "YOUR" application. I tried to post it here, but it wouldn't load so I'll post it in the transmission section.
If you've...
Well, I've finally got almost all of the issues with my Thermoquad fixed. Once warmed up, it runs just fine.
The only problem I'm having now is with the fast idle. To engage or disengage the fast idle, I've got to manually move the fast idle screw up or down as required. It seems to me that the...
