Hello, so for some reason I had assumed for the last 5 years that my car was built 11/28/71. But out messing around in the garage this evening I took a picture of the door data tag, and it was 8-71. That concerned me as thinking it should be 11-71, turns out I messed up the info from the fender...

I bought the 489 case with sure grip for $150 with a broke ring gear. I paid about $150 for a set of 373’s and the I think I about $400 for bearings seals, and new fine spline yoke. I think k at this point he says he’s up to $500 for labor. So $1200 already to rebuild a cone style sure grip...

Here are a few measurements, first the crush sleeve is 2 7/8”. From the backside of the pinion gear to the end of the shaft is 7 1/8”, and from the face of the bearing to where the splines end is 3 5/8” I am still planning to purchase the sleeve kit, but I wanted to share these numbers...

Thank you, I will go and measure the crush sleeve to check its length. That had me take the pinion and crush sleeve. I was a little concerned because they had the old yoke, but couldn’t find the new one I bought. Ugh

So the trans shop has told me they need about 1/4” of shims on my yolk to touch the crush sleeve. It’s a 8 3/4 489 case with a cone style sure grip. It had 355 gears that were damaged, I purchased 373 gears to replace those. The original yoke was a coarse spline, and the new gears required a...

Sure grip housing cone style, this housing has a broken bolt and a couple of the other holes have stripped threads. I’d like to find another housing if possible, and if I can’t I’m going to see if a friend that’s a machinist can fix this one. Well this afternoon I was able to fix this...
