Steering column too long for gear box.

I don't know where I was but I was in a Cadillac dealership looking at a Cadillac. I was sitting in it and the salesman told me "This car has a tilt steering wheel for more head room" and continued his spiel without missing a beat. That was probably 35 years ago and I haven't forgotten it.

Thank you... I forgot about ebay. I usually stay away from stuff with shipping. But I'll have check there also. In this case I need the power steering one though.

Steering column too long for gear box.

Thank you. I will have to contact that guy Cody but his video made it look challenging digging around behind the horn button... I think I would have to have him do it so there is shipping 2X. There are some guys at a shop in CA called Motech but I would have to take the steering out of the car.

Steering column too long for gear box.

Thank you so much. Your help and the help from the rest of the folks has been invaluable. Now that I really understand what happened I can proceed. It was heminut that identified that my steering shaft had been lengthened, obviously going from Power Steering to Manual Steering. Cody in his video...

Steering column too long for gear box.

Ron thank you so much for taking the time to upload the pictures. If you look at my last picture it does look like there is a sleeve welded on to my shaft. I have to examine whether the coupler has enough space to fit between the sleeve and the PS unit. Or maybe there is a coupler that has the...

Steering column too long for gear box.

I think heminut is on to something. I don't know a lot because there is no fender tag just the vin on the dash. I do know that it was an automatic converted to a 4 speed. It came with manual steering. It was a 340 car with a 440. The Z bar arrangement looked pretty shoddy when I took it apart...

Steering column too long for gear box.

Thank you. I will unbolt the steering column. It does look easy but the scope of the project just seems to keep growing.

Steering column too long for gear box.

Thank you so much for your help. Yes I have read that and that is what Bergman told me. I tried to tap on it but I didn't want to hit it too hard. Kindly look at the picture below. My steering column doesn't even look like what you are showing. What's going on here? If I take the steering column...

Steering column too long for gear box.

I have a 70 cuda and am trying to convert to power steering. I bought the Borgeson box and the supposed required custom coupler from Bergman. The whole thing is just way too long. The guy at Bergman told me to hammer the shaft in but it doesn't look like that will work since the shaft looks too...

Anyone using the Mopar Aluminum 2 Bolt Master Cylinder

Thanks Katfish! Bc3j I was not talking about the retainer on the pushrod. I was talking about the rubber boot that covers where the pushrod goes in the MC in the back at the firewall. Bill.

Anyone using the Mopar Aluminum 2 Bolt Master Cylinder

I just bought one of these with the adapter. I am going from drum to front disc. My old MC has a collar that holds a rubber boot on the rear where the piston goes in. There is no provision for this on the modern MC. Also, how do I know how long the piston should be? Thank You.

It's basically a complete set from 2005 to Present. It takes about 5' of shelf space. I can't guarantee every single one is there -- a few may have been lost here and there. Just don't want to throw them away. Too heavy to ship. You must pick them up in Costa Mesa, CA. Bill J. 714-866-6299

    Borgeson power steering unite

Thanks to all for the help. The pictures of the shaft were what really made it clear and help me see how knocking the shaft in would not cause a problem.
