My car also originally had manual steering And A/C. I can’t find a picture but the idler pulley was in the same place as the power steering pump would be. This is on a 73 small block.
I have Edelbrock Proflo3 on one of my 73’s and ProFlo4 on the other. No problems with either. I went with the ProFlo EFI because there’s an injector at each cylinder not a wet manifold like the sniper. Install a in tank fuel pump and Follow the instructions and you shouldn’t have any issues.
I used an Areomotive tank and Areomotive 340gph in tank pump. Since then they have come out with a smaller pump 200gph I believe which would have worked for me.
The OEM’s put the pump in the tank for a reason. I’ve converted my Challengers to EFI and installed the EFI tank with pump in the tank. No issues now for the past few years and best of all you can’t hear it running once the engine is running.
Also in case you’re not aware, the compressor clutch needs to be grounded. Just applying 12v to the wire does not complete the circuit. The clutch is usually Grounded through the compressor.
A 7 blade fan also needs a HD fan clutch. The standard one won’t spin the fan fast enough at low speed to keep it cool. This won’t affect your issue of heating up on the road. The easiest thing to try is a different thermostat. The temperature of the coolant leaving the radiator should be cool...
Well yes as I said, I guess it’s possible. Mine is a ’88 360 roller block with “Iron Ram” EQ heads prepped by Hughes. Hughes roller cam 228/236*, Rhodes lifters, Forged rotating assembly from Hughes, ProFlo3 EFI and a tremec 5speed.
20-22 mpg is probably wishful thinking Although I guess it’s possible. I got 18.5 with my 408/5spd combo in my 73 with a light foot coming home from Carlisle.
