.005" should be no problem. I have seen holley bodies warp more than .020". Makes them impossible to stop leaking. Keep me posted on how you are making out.

While checking for warped parts did you put a straight edge across the body of the carb? A six inch caliper is good for this. Check both across from side to side and corner to corner. Over time the bowl screws can cause the carb body to warp causing both fuel and vacuum leaks. The only way...
Holley uses a brass float for the center carb but uses nitrophyl floats on the outboard carbs. Over time they start to absorb fuel and become heavier making it very difficult to control fuel flow. I replace all nitrophyl floats every time I rebuild a carb with them. This includes Rochester...
In the good old days when these cars were new we would take the shop AVR (analog not digital ), remove the negative cable from the battery and connect the voltmeter leads in series between the negative post and the negative battery cable. This acts as a milliammeter. You can use any analog...
The 727 has an anti-drain back valve in the valve body to prevent the converter from draining down overnight. Sometimes after an overhaul they can stick. I had the same problem. Big pain in the you know what.
Replace your turn signal switch. The signal light is a flashing brake light and both are routed thru the signal switch. Common problem as the contacts wear out over time.
My 72 had a 22" but I replaced it with a 26" with the factory shroud by removing the filler plate on one side of the rad. The actual opening was originally designed to allow for the 26 for big blocks. Shroud, seals and seven bladed thermostatic fan allowed a 185 thermostat with no problems at...
The 30 came with the 800 TQ while the 440 had the 850. Properly set up the TQ gives instant throttle response at any RPM with no bog or lag. Even better when the distributor curve is also tweaked as the factory springs are way to strong. Mopar had a quick curve spring kit that worked really well...
1. Vacuum advance does respond to engine demand and will give you better drivability and much better fuel economy.
2. A 65 power valve opens at 6.5 inches of vacuum. If you are running a cam on the street that only has 5 inches of vacuum you probably don't need a power valve just very rich...
The 6 pack set up uses vac operated outboard carbs. Also most 2bbl carbs are flow rated with a different vac draw than four barrel carbs and are not directly comparable. The 1350 sounds awesome but is actually not a lot more than an 850 four. When setting up a carb I always use a four or five...
The big question is this for mainly street or track. If for street always go with vacuum secondary's. You can then fine tune the opening to prevent any bog. With mechanical secondary's you are pretty much flushing a toilet with gallons of unused fuel to cover a bog on the street. This will...
I have long arms and found the steering wheel was too close to be comfortable. I took the accordion crush sleeve off and put into a press and squeezed it down about an inch. Not sure if this is advised but it works.
I agree that good parts are the way to go. Moog has always been my choice. New parts are always stiff and need some time to set in and loosen up, usually a few hundred miles will do it. However off shore parts may take a lot longer (or maybe never?)
I have a 96 Ford Ranger 4x4 that the caster specs are 2 to 6 pos with preferred of 4 and the alignment guys argue with me when I want at least 5. With the 265 70R 15 tires at 4 and 3 3/4 it still hunts down the highway. I have to find a different shop that will listen to me. What do I know...
