Hemi Conversion.."to be or not to be"

Gents, I have been tapping into your advice and recommendations for the past ~3 years since I bought my "95%" original 73 rally 340 auto challenger. Since it had been mostly sitting for the 14 years before I bought it, I have spent a lot of time/effort with expected stuff like brakes...

    Leaf Spring Rebuild

I bought(~18 months ago) a factory replacement set from General Spring out of Kansas City and put them on my 73 rally car. They came with new rubber bushings already installed in the front ends and went on easy-peasy. Also bought replacement rear shackles w bushings and all new associated...

8-3/4 Differential complete center section change

THX. I'll follow-up to confirm exactly teh brand and weight of what was used in my differential. Also, after about 100-150 miles of local driving, my rear differential is practically silent...Or at least as quiet as the OEM 3:91 gears that I removed. Hooray!

Irregular "stumble/miss" at fast idle & low engine load

Gents, I have previously posted about "issues" with my 73 340 Rally challenger that I bought a little over 2 years ago in "fair" shape with orig. eng/trans and 92K miles. Car had been mostly sitting for the previous 12-13 years with semi-regular starting and drives around the block. As...

    Transmission Wear and Odors

Gents, as usual, I appreciate all the feedback/advice. 1) Trans. health: the only reason I had the local shop (working on other stuff) to pull the rans pan was because it was slightly leaking. We Did change the filter, but since the shop was not a transmission place, nothing else was...

8-3/4 Differential complete center section change

I need to verify, but I believe it is 90W.

    Transmission Wear and Odors

Gents, Here are a few pics from recent work to inspect/change the filter and fluid in the 727 trans of my '73 340 auto Rally Challenger. The filter was about 1/2 covered with very small bits of metal similar to what is visible in the bottom of the pan. Car has 92K original miles w what I...

8-3/4 Differential complete center section change

All, Just to close out this string....Thx for all the advice/feedback. My local mechanic, pulled the gear set and re-verified contact pattern (twice) for no charge. He did recommend replacement of the new pinion bearing we just installed because he said is felt like it was binding some (?)...

8-3/4 Differential complete center section change

All, THX...for the feedback. Chryco, I have heard that from the local "expert" on this subject. He has agreed to give me a "second look" at the set-up once the first tech/shop pulls it back out of my car. He warned that even if we pull it, find the problem(s), and make the correct...

8-3/4 Differential complete center section change

All, SO, I ended up getting referred to a local shop that has a history of doing solid ring & pinion, differential and transmission work. I discussed my plans to swap to a 3:23 gear set with the lead tech and he seemed very familiar with the work and with mopar rear diffs. (My car car...

8-3/4 Differential complete center section change

All, THX for the feedback. During my review of related posts in the archives, I have noticed that Dr. Diff. seemed like the clear winner, but I wanted to get an updated perspective. -TeeScott

8-3/4 Differential complete center section change

Gents, After about 2 years of cruising with the original 4:10 (calculated by repeated driving test), rear diff. gearing in my "mostly original" '73 ralleye 340 auto challenger, I am planning a change to make it more "cruising friendly". Due to limited availability of local shops willing to...

    18' x 8' Wheel fitment and advice

Guys, TRULY appreciate the solid, detailed feedback and great pics of your beautiful challengers. Will very likely order a set of these VN510s for my 73 in the near future. I think they will really take my car's appearance to the next level. As you can see in the pics, though they are...

    18' x 8' Wheel fitment and advice

Austa, thx for the feedback. My braking system is ~100% stock. Single piston calipers on factory size discs up front and rear drum brakes. Though I do believe that these 8" wide wheels (w 4.5" backspace) will work fine on the rear, I can't find many references to folks using such 8" wide...

    18' x 8' Wheel fitment and advice

Guys, I have reviewed several dozen discussion threads on this topic and am 90% sure that a set of these wheels should fit on my 73 ralleye challenger without complications....but I wanted to get a little confirmation before I place the order.. Regarding tires, I plan to select series that are...
