Sublime Lime 70 Challenger R/T SE

Made up and welded in a replacement bottom section for the inner quarter panel section. Ultimately not sure what you call it, but that'll do. Almost at the point where I can paint all the exposed metal surfaces and spot weld the sill back in. Still a bit of surface clean up to do ahead of...

Another weekend gone and a dew more small bits of progress. Cleaned up the inside of the sill area, made up a patch for the rusted section of the inner sill area and replaced the top half of the forward sill end cap. Combination of rust and casualty of removing the old sill. One more patch to do...

Well, no Dynacorn parts were used in the restoration for a start 🤣 AMD parts generally speaking available here. At this stage not that many new metal parts have been added. There’s a number of handcrafted new metal patches in there as well 😉

😂 it certainly feels like that!

Well, I think I'm onto the home stretch of taking pieces off at least ... removed passenger side wheel tubs, found more rust in the passenger side sill/door jamb area. Removed said sill and door jamb. So a few parts to make up - front end cap for the sill, bottom section of the inner passenger...

Absolutely a labour of love! Not directly supporting atm, other than virtually.

That’s what I tell myself as well. Not making them anymore either and it’s the first year, so worth taking my time and being happy with the result.

Sooo, turns out I don't know when to stop. Probably some form of OCD sitting there undiagnosed ... 🙃 The trunk floor had been replaced already but there was quite a bit of porosity showing through in the plug welds that where apparently holding it down. I started to gouge some of them out so I...

Yes, I spent a day going over the measurements when I just had the front and rear mounted. Measuring and re-measuring. Going back to the datum from the manual. It had me worried. The measurements check out and the sills are level longitudinally. So fingers crossed it’s all good 😬

I've been trying to convince myself out of having to make up a jig to hold the body level (stop the sag). I'd braced the interior along the way, so thought it would all be ok, but I've got to the point where I need to check the panel alignment before I weld the out wheel tub on, so I can weld up...

Thanks, you always expect some “secrets” 😂

Sublime Lime 70 Challenger R/T SE

Well it’s taken a lot longer than I had planned and I’ve had to change tack a little but I’ve finally finished repairing the sail panel braces on the drivers side. I ended up repairing the originals, rather than making new ones from scratch. I had originally made an entirely new upper and middle...

Sadly my shop just isn’t big enough - I know, everyone has the same problem 🤣 I’ve got parts of my challenger taking up floor space in my garage, which means I keep having to move things in and out as I use them. Also means I spend almost as much time looking for a tool as I do actually using...

Been slow progress of late due to work committments, but I finally got to welding in the replacement sail pillar panel. Won't win any welding competiotions, but it's a lot better than the swiss cheese before.

It’s ABS plastic. Same as LEGO. You wouldn’t do production runs with them, but for one maybe two presses they are fine.

I’ve been playing with 3D printing dies to “stamp” the panels that I’m making. First attempt has turned out pretty well. Just need to clean everything up, a bit of fine tuning and it’ll be ready to weld in.

I am trying to reproduce as closely as possible… I’m a sucker for punishment. The cutouts make me think how I can fab them with the least amount of additional welds. Call it practice. I know no-one will ever see it, but it’s for my satisfaction.
