    Vapor lock VS Cool Carb

May I suggest keeping in mind the OP's level of experience AND abilities in your responses? Offering otherwise excellent advice to someone before you know whether or not they can actually take advantage of it does not necessarily help. And may actually confuse the situation for them. In other...

    Vapor lock VS Cool Carb

You touch on the FACT that carb tuning is becoming a lost art, then jump to tuning MPI. There are probably even fewer regular car guys that can properly install and tune multi port injection than can tune a carb. They just don't have the equipment let alone the knowledge. Just look at the...

    Vapor lock VS Cool Carb

Thermoquads weren't bad carbs, but had their problems. The gasket UNDER the fuel being at the top of the list. Warped centers also comes to mind. For most guys today who aren't fluent in carbs, the half century old Thermoquads are not the best choice. What if the one they get has the throttle...

    Vapor lock VS Cool Carb

Been blocking the cross-over since these cars were almost new. And today's fuel is even more volatile than the fuel was when these cars were designed and built. The best carb insulators are made of wood, believe it or not. That is what I have always used but some of the other materials are more...

    New 512 build planning

I have a mainly street 540 Hemi but it gets slung to high 6,000RPM every time it is out. It also may sit for a few weeks at a time due to my schedule. It has a hi volume pump and stock Hemi pan. Given those parameters, I have an Accusump. That way, it has oil pressure BEFORE I even hit the key...

    New 512 build planning

Keep in mind the old adage that low speed (or non moving) cooling issues are usually related to air flow while road speed cooling issues are generally related to water flow. That has helped me sort out cooling issues more times than I can count.

Big Block 4sp Automatic Transmission Housing

The Ultra Bells are SFI certified, are far stronger than the original cast bells, and have been around for years so we know that they hold up. What more would one need to know? The supplied grade 8 bolts are being threaded into cast aluminum and enjoyed the SFI certification. Changing to grade...

Big Block 4sp Automatic Transmission Housing

You may be referring to the JW Ultra bell. I have one mating a built 518 to my 540" Hemi. The JW is SFI certified, and is rated 5 times stronger than original so I don't know why you would say that a "one piece" (which doesn't exist) would be better. 92457 / Ultra-Bell Big Block Chrysler to...

    Fuel Pressure Measuring?

If you don't want to drill holes to mount the ECU on the fire wall, just use some double sided tape like they use for emblems. That stuff is strong. Heat may be an issue with it, but would be worth a try with the mounting bracket. The mounting bracket is not a requirement, it just might offer...

    Fuel Pressure Measuring?

No, a vacuum leak will not cause your problem unless it is a really weird one. Unmetered air will have the biggest impact at the lowest flow. So, low engine speed would be hit the hardest.

    Cylinder wall

Two questions: Does it catch your fingernail? What is the application and how particular are you? It certainly looks like it would be okay for driver type applications. If you want to get real particular about it, it appears that the only way to clean it up would be to bore it.

    Fuel Pressure Measuring?

I will say again; the carb has fuel bowls (basically reservoirs) of fuel in them. If I understand your problem correctly, they will not drain nor refill as quickly as you are describing your problems. At any rate, check your fuel pressure WHEN the problem is occurring. If you have much of any...

    Misfiring issues

A small tip that will help with cam installs; Before you drop the intake on, put a mark on each lifter. Spin the engine over at cranking speed and watch to make sure ALL of the lifters spin. They don't have to move much or fast, just some rotation as the lifter comes up on the lobe. If any do...

    Indy Heads :(

NEVER buy directly from Indy. They suck and don't care. Been that way forever. Buy from one of their vendors which gives you a chance at something close to customer service. Even when I bought something as basic as an intake at the Indy Show in Indianapolis, I would buy from a vendor and have...

    Fuel Pressure Measuring?

Is that an old orange ECU mounted on the engine? First, try a different ECU if you haven't already. Maybe more than one. There have been a TON of crappy ones over the years and they have been known to cause the very problem you are experiencing. Second, get it off the engine. Too much vibration...

    Big Block Cooling Help/Opinions

Those Stewarts look EXACTLY like the Mr Gasket hi flows. I hope these are better. There used to be a video around where someone tested as many different big block water pumps as he could find. The results were surprising. Many cavitated way earlier than one would have thought even if they had...

    Big Block Cooling Help/Opinions

Seems to be a lot of information provided here that flies in the face of my experience with over temp issues. First, you have provided very little in the way of information to help. So, this will be general. One rule of thumb that is a good way to start is by asking WHEN it gets hot. Over temp...

    Mopar restoration parts

And besides being expensive, many of the aftermarket parts are J..U..N..K! We have always said that Mopars are made of special materials collectively called Unobtainium.

    Cooling help please

That flex fan has to GO! And yes, you really need a shroud. The best set up is a real fan with the short Jaguar clutch. And I am not a fan of the electric fans. The only ones that I have seen actually work are the Mercedes repops with Howie's controller. But they draw a LOT of amps and you need...
