I've fixed a few rattles and squeaks on my 71 with some type of shim between the offending parts. A strip of rubber, some stick-on foam padding, a piece of moleskin, etc..
Year One sells them, I suspect others do as well. Measure your old one before you order, make sure you're getting the same cable.

Here's a pic (not mine) of the back side once installed. The open slot in the middle of the clip is designed to snap in a groove that's cut into the end of the linkage rod.
Stev-O, if I'm reading your post correctly, you're looking for the U-shaped clip at the left end of the cable shown in the pic below. Is that correct?
Assuming you locate one, how would you install the new clip on the old cable? You would have to remove the ball end from the old cable, slip the...
Not really. It works to get the nut on/off, but the teeth could be "a tad bit" wider on the wrench :)
They make sockets as well that I'm told fit better, but I wasn't sure what size I needed.
Bottom pic is the repo/spare that I have.
My '71 convertible was set up similar when I bought it. It had a solid plug inside the heater supply hose where it attached to the heater control valve. There were two clamps on the heater hose right next to each other, one of them clamped the hose to the control valve like you would expect, the...
A few things come to mind.
You mentioned tuning the carb with a vacuum gauge. By that I assume that amongst other things you adjusted the idle mixture screws after resetting the float level? Turn in one side at a time until the rpm/vacuum drops and the engine begins to stumble. Now you're...
First couple things that come to mind. Check your shock absorber bolts, upper and lower. Check your exhaust system. Make sure everything is tight back there. Is there anything in the trunk that's loose? Jack? Spare tire?
Obash, follow your rear line after it leaves the distribution block. A two piece line will have another brass fitting attached to the inner DS frame rail, maybe 2 feet or so aft of the distribution block that you show in your picture.
Here's a pic of a two piece line for reference. The front of...
Thanks all!
It was indeed the starter relay. The battery terminal was shorted to the solenoid terminal inside the relay. I had a new relay to compare ohmmeter readings with. I swapped relays and it works fine now.
> pschlosser - Yes, I have the 71 Chassis and Body Service Manuals. There's a...
Howdy folks. I have a 71 cuda clone, 340, 4 speed. Last night I pulled into a convenience store on the way home. When I went to start the car to leave, the starter motor would not disengage. The car started, but the starter motor continued to crank. I turned the car off, removed the key from the...
