Your connections are correct, however there may be a problem with your cable routing. The cable should run across the firewall area under the dash and exit to the engine bay near the heater box area. that will give you the correct angle and length to make your connections properly.
I rebuilt my tach and was able to calibrate it using the tach on my timing light and the instructions provided by the supplier. I have included a link below for the service information. Page 3 references the calibration procedure.

Don't hold your breath for that one from Classic Industries! I've had one on my wish list to order for over two years and they haven't gotten any in yet.
I rebuilt mine myself but did have to recalibrate it. I am including a link below provided by the vendor for the entire process. The calibration instructions start on page 3 of the information. Since yours is working that should be all it needs.

If you still have your Fender Tag you can decode the info from it and have a new factory correct door sticker made at ECS Automotive: VIN Data Decal (1972-89 Mopar Vehicles)
Since the trim is stainless, if the scratches are very deep they will be difficult to get out. I recommend watching several YouTube videos on polishing stainless and using the sanding process if needed, but be prepared, it is a process!
You will need a bench type polishing wheel that operates...

I would certainly check all of the VIN numbers on the car with the VIN on the tag. Radiator support, cowl, deck lid rail, etc. that should tell you if the car is complete or has been pieced together. Either way it's going to be a nice driver!

Not so! The collapsibility of the column stays in tact when you use the Borgeson joint as prescribed. The cut is made below the teflon pins and keeps the safety feature of the column shaft in tact. It only takes about 3 inches off of the shaft end.

I understand, sometimes the fab work can be the hardest. You are on the right track though.
If you will measure back on the original steering shaft you will cut that joint completely out leaving the round portion of the shaft that will be an exact fit to the Borgeson coupler.

I used a Borgeson unit on my challenger and it's a very easy installation if you bought the joint!
Simply set your column in place through the firewall and with the joint attached to the Borgeson gear, match it up and mark your shaft. Cut the shaft to the proper length for the new connecting...
I was thinking that the last one I added had a template molded into the rear of the door panelwhere the control mounts.
Don't forget to use the backing clip as well!
Mine had been hacked out like that when I got it! I had to get a new one from AMD and replace it. Fortunately I had to replace the floor pan too so it wasn't that big of deal!
