I used the Rockauto one the OP posted about in my 71 and it works just fine. Maybe OP just got a bad one.

I would like to add that I have every maintenance record on this car from new (12 miles). I can say that the only thing other than general maintenance that has been done is, the screen on the radio was delaminating so, they replaced it under warranty.
