The 340 can definitely be made to run well. If it's the numbers matching engine, I would stick with it and make a stroker motor out of it and run a nice Thermoquad or Holley Street Demon.
If it's not the original engine, than GEN III hemi is probably the way to go. I wouldn't go the 5.7 route...
They make adapters for your conversion.

I'd better clarify about the hook ups on my property. I can support three rigs with 220 and water, but one spot is more premium and @heminut has first dibs on that one! And I can support five or six with water and 110 volts and 30 amps!!
@moparmike68 I just built a 1970 industrial 413 with my son last year and the 440 Source pickup and 6 quart pan fit just fine with no problems. And we used the Jegs windage tray/gasket.
Also, the 402 pan will hold five quarts, but remember when it's running one quart is in the oiling system...
@MMoparDan , I feel your pain. In 2024/2025 winter we had a lot of cold days here and I went through a tank (250 gallon - only 85%) of propane. Have to use propane when you're out in the boonies! And hot summers (thank the Lord we're cooler that Tucson and Phoenix!) we use a lot of electricity.
@heminut you know the gate will be open when you show up and the Electricity and well water hook ups available.
That goes for you other Mopar guys if you want to make the trip!!
The whole emissions scam is just another form of taxation. I remember many many years ago, an inspector came out to inspect the equipment and tanks in the machine shop I worked at. And as luck would have it (they do exist), he was an honest man. He passed everything because the shop was on the...
With a 440 source stroker kit and only wanting around 550 HP, you could get away with running a set of their ported Stealth heads and if you painted them, it would look like a stock 440. With Lunati being bought out (I snagged about ten of their bigger hydraulic flat tappet cams before they...
Welcome to FEBO from the desert! You need to post some pictures when you get a chance.
Also, put a post in the Wanted to Buy forum. Someone might have the doors you need.
I believe you need to use a small block bell housing with the 392 hemi and 833 transmission. So if you currently have a "833 Hemi trans", you'll need to swap out the bell housing. Should be a fun ride with your combo.
How high did you rev it (rpm)? Stock stamped rockers and factory push rods are only good to about 5800 rpm. Obviously removing the valve covers will tell you the most. If it were me, I'd remove each rocker arm assembly and check each pushrod (one at a time so they don't get mixed up) for...
