Back in the late 80's, me, my brother, 2 cousins, and 2 friends all had Ford Fiestas as winter beaters / daily cars. And we had 2 "spare" parts cars we shared... Funds were tight back then and the Fiesta was a good winter car, you would be surprised how well they went in the snow...
I have one of each, A833 and 727. I would say the 4-speed is much more fun to drive. Going up through the gears is great, but also selectively downshifting in town can be a blast as well.
