    302 Heads on a 318

302 heads do not flow well in stock form. 308s will flow slightly better than X or J castings, but I gave up on finding any uncracked 308 castings years ago. I will not start with cracked head castings, I put too much time and money into my heads. X or J heads are fine with me. I am not a...

    302 Heads on a 318

302 heads flow less or the same as what you have. 302 Heads are very prone to cracking. Nothing wrong with 675 head castings. I scrapped a lot of 302 heads to find a couple good pairs, only to have them sit on a shelf.

Another consideration is what do you torque ARP bolts to and how does that affect the stresses on the block and cylinders?

    Upgrading 73 Challenger with 318.

The Direct Connection double roller was nothing special, probably just a stock OEM / Cloyes 340 timing set.

    Upgrading 73 Challenger with 318.

You do not need a timing chain tensioner if you run a good double roller timing chain. I have a 273 with a Direct Connection double roller chain setup with 300,000 miles on it, installed in the 80's. As of today it only has 1 degree of stretch. No need to complicate things.

    Upgrading 73 Challenger with 318.

The plan is a sound one. My son has a 73 Dart with a 318. For what you want, a cam change, new double roller timing set, four barrel carb (500 to 600 cfm) and intake, and better exhaust, can make a nice upgrade. I'd skip the heads as that opens up a bigger can of worms, but offers a...

    Carb recommendations / fit

Well the OP hasn't posted since March 19, 2026. Hope we did not scare him off. As for your question, in very general terms there are 2 basic footprints for carbs. 1. Spread bore: ThermoQuad and Quadra-Jet + small triple venturi primary bores, large secondary bores, Air valve...

    Carb recommendations / fit

First of all, we all need to stay within our comfort zones. If Holley works for you, go with that. I'm the Geek that walks through a swap meet, checking the numbers on carbs (original Carters) and don't need a book. Most people will be happy with any good 4 barrel carb. There are few new...

    Carb recommendations / fit

I've run a ThermoQuad on 273's, 318's, 340's and 383 street cars. I don't need a wide band to tune an engine, been doing it for at least 50 years. The ThermoQuad was a staple of Stock and Super Stock racers since they came out, not that Drag Racing is anything I'd waste my time on. I wouldn't...

    Carb recommendations / fit

Funny, I've never had any of those "problems" and never needed to recalibrate the jets or rods. They aren't Holleys. The hard part is finding a good HP core. As for a QJet, they are second behind a TQ for best street carb, but they take more work to get them there.

    Kickdown Linkage with Street Demon

There was a different flat plate for 4 barrel carbs. It should work with the Street Demon as it works off the throttle stud. I think this is a picture of one.

    Carb recommendations / fit

I still run a TQ whenever possible and have never had any problems. Nice to hear the Street Demons are as good as they looked. Nice to have a new carb available that is an all around performer as the TQ.

    Upgrading 73 Challenger with 318.

318's are not that small and can make as good power as a 360 or 340. The real question is honestly, what do you want from your car? What gears do you have now? You have an E-Body, you can install any motor and drive train and it will fit.
