    Engine bottom-end ID

Thanks! The only casting number Ive found is: 4006630-440-1 Definitely has. Need to find someone to go through and rebuild it at this point I imagine. Getting a new engine out here would probably cost more in the end.

    Engine bottom-end ID

Hello! Had my oil pan off and wanted to see if anyone can confirm my suspicions that this engine is a stock 75-78 cast block based on these photos. Thanks!

    Timing Questions

N Not sure why you're so hyper critical over some simple questions. I have a full kit of tools, access to all service manuals online and a full shop with a lift that I rent for 5 bucks an hour lift time. I managed to install AC, redo the entire front suspension, reweld/patch the frame...

    Timing Questions

I had stuck a camera in cyl 1 a month or 2 back and it looked surprisingly clean. some definite scoring on the walls but, from my limited knowledge it looked decent. I have only checked that cylinder though just because I was interested to test out the camera. I might have those pictures still...

    Timing Questions

Will do! Been researching and will make that my next project. That was part of the reason I had timing set at 15ish because I assumed the chain was stretched. Its a double edged sword coming to the forum haha. I get a lot of good info, but my list of work keeps growing!

    Timing Questions

I appreciate the info. Unfortunately I didn't have much info on the car when I bought it since it came overseas. I googled the VIN and found a listing when it was sold in Florida a few years ago but it never listed any engine specs, so I just assumed its stock. It very well could have some mods...

    Timing Questions

Yes my bad, that is the correct one. I am going to try that, but I noticed its a little slow to start when I had it set at 10-12, I might have to try slightly stiffer springs or adjusting the max mechanical? I also realized that I'm just a huge idiot after not being able to replicate the weird...

I have not, I am going to work to replace the timing chain and do that as well here soon!

    Timing Questions

Based on the casting number, I know it's a 75-78 motor home engine. I don't quite remember where I read that it's likely a 78 specifically so that could be wrong. Would that compression lead you to believe that it isn't stock then?

    Timing Questions

It is as far as I know a completely stock '78 RB 440 and all I have done to it that is relevant is added the Edelbrock performer non-EGR intake and installed a new distributor [This one], along with swapping the cap to the male type [here]. It has the Edelbrock 1411 carb with no spacer. Fuel is...

    Timing Questions

I do not, but I can grab one. Have any recommendations of something quick that would work from like Amazon or something? I don't know what's normal but I did notice quite a bit of vacuum on that port as well as my pcv while idle

    Timing Questions

Okay, I will definitely look into my carb settings as well. Haha good eye! it's just an old picture while I was disassembling and reassembling things. I did actually ruin the threads on the intake on that front right outside hole, so I had to move that stud to the inside hole in the end.

    Timing Questions

Thanks! Yeah as far as I can tell, I should be hooked up right. Here's a pic Also, the pcv Is hooked up to that front middle port and brake booster to the back.

    Timing Questions

I'll check that, when you're looking at rhe face of the carb, I'm using the left one, which shhhoooouuuuld be the timing advance but I can definitely check the other one. Is there a world where a bad gasket could have both pull vacuum?

    Timing Questions

    As far as I know and can tell it's a stock late 70s RB 440. I ran a compression test yesterday and these were the numbers: 1: 132 2: 140 3: 135 4: 129 5: 134 6: 127 7: 135 8: 125 I have it idling around 800 at the moment, and if I were to re-adjust the vacuum advance on the cap, it would idle...

    Timing Questions

Hello again! I've got another probably dumb question or two. I am running electronic ignition with mechanical and adjustable vacuum advance on a 440 and an Edelbrock 1411. I have my vacuum advance running from the carb's "timed vacuum" port to the distributor (rather than "manifold vacuum"). I...

Steering column too short for gear box

Thanks everyone for the replies! I managed to pull it back out with some vice grips and a crowbar. Will be finishing up the install today. Still need to remount the spindle to the lower arms, install my new calipers and rotors, etc. Had another few questions along the way that I think I got...

Steering column too short for gear box

Thanks for the reassurance! Been in the base garage 8 hours a day for the past couple days, so any show-stoppers would be heart breaking haha. Found quite a bit of frame damage as well on the drivers side where the k frame mounts. There were already quite a few patches. Added my own as well as...

Steering column too short for gear box

I gave it a bit of a tug by hand and couldn't manage. Tomorrow I'll try to make sure it's lined up well and try to give it a bit of love. Shouldn't really be any other reason for it to be suddenly short then, right?
