Yes, of course, the picture doesn't proof it's a '71 JS27 car.
But unless we see that car's VIN / Fender tag we just can't tell, right?
To say it with the words of the canadian guy:
'Makes you wonder whether Chrysler slipped a few R/T convertibles out the door in '71 before pulling their...
Chryco Psycho,
my Challenger is one of these early '71 model year cars, with VIN Number JH27 H1B 150398 (build date 814 / Friday, August 14th 1970).
What always puzzled me is the Sequencial Number, as it seems to be common believe the S/N started with 100001 at the beginning of a new model...
Yes, that was it for the Pinto, while the Challenger might be still among us?
And you're right: A well equipped '70 Challenger (looks like a 440). But what makes you think it was a SE?
Chrysler never built new Challenger convertibles for the '72 Mod Squad season (or any other TV production). The just converted the already existing '71 verts (that they rented to the studios) into 72 models by changing the front and the rear end attributes.
If it really is one of these...
Hello Speet,
I knew about the filming locations in the Hanksville area because of the apparent airport building way in the background. But I didn't know the location of the fake Nevada/California border. Another great find!
And I can add some updates on K's midnight ride through Denver...
Yes, I took these pictures.
Driving into Nice, these cars were sitting right beside the road.
I scanned the negatives yesterday, and I just now noticed the unique (Monaco) license plate.
A quick Google search and what do you know:
The car is actually on sale on CarsOnLine:

Hello Steve,
thanks for spreading the word - and I wish I could join you for that Kowalski-Run from Colorado to California!
And stay tuned, as I heard rumors that 'Last Highway' has arrived on that dry lake west of Tonopah.
35mm film and John Alonzo style lenses: This really sounds great (and adventurous)! And I guess all we are waiting for here are some crystal clear pictures of that
dry lake west of Tonopah. And of course the icing on the cake: The exact flat tire scene location....
Speet,
you’re quite right with your localization of this part of the off-road desert scene, as your comparison pictures clearly demonstrate.
So based on the research done by you and MrLocation, we can recap this desert scene (44 Min. into the movie) as follows:
- Cornered by the police...
Come spring and having dream machines like yours, your notion is perfectly understandable. Guess the colour doesn't matter when you're behind the wheel? (And you seem to be a reasonable person :))

Amazing: You lifted the veil from the secret of one of the last remaining unknown VP-location; congratulations!
Thousand Oaks: And I thought one had to look for this scenery in the Sacramento / Stockton area (assuming they shot the scene at the end of the filming schedule, coming from the...
And moving on.......to the Beach Scene:
Japanese movie program still picture
Some of you probably will recognize the distinctive scenery immediately. Yes, it's Point Dume State Beach in Malibu.

Hello Speet,
I really was surprised to discover the shooting location of one of the Sheriff-Office scenes was in Goldfield. This because I was so convinced that this office was located in Tonopah; both in reality and in the virtual reality of the film.
In reality,
because in the DVD commentary...
