    Noisy 8 3/4 Differential

Well, we finally got this diff noise sorted. But before that and after the last set of gears fitted, we decided to have the housing checked, it was bent 3/4", it was straightend up and fitted back in, the teeth readings were checked once more and as John-9 advised it was shimmed to bring the...

    Noisy 8 3/4 Differential

Just an update on my diff. After the 4th set of gears (first set had no hardening) there is still a noise on decelleration, once again the tooth reading is perfect with 1" thou runout. This would have to be the most puzzling diff ever! Last resort is to have the housing checked for...

    Noisy 8 3/4 Differential

I have to admit its got the Diff Specialist beat at this stage! I'm sure he will reslove it, but for the meantime I'm not able to drive the car and our cruising time is almost over, we have just gone from Summer to Autumn and the crappy wet days seem to be here early!!.

    Noisy 8 3/4 Differential

New Green style wheel bearings have been fitted, the noise is not constant like wheel bearings would make, the noise changes by accelerating and decelerating, under acceleration minimal noise, deceleration and cruise the noise is there but changes. Not sure about the pattern I will ask about...

    Noisy 8 3/4 Differential

Hi All, I had my 8 3/4 489 Diff overhauled in my 74 Cuda just after the new year, I purchased a new 3.23:1 crown wheel and pinion as well as a master overhaul kit from Summit Racing, they supplied me Yukon products. After the overhaul the car was driven and immediately there was a whirring noise...

    Speedo Gear

Hi All, I would like some assistance on speedo gears, I was finally able to source parts for my 8 3/4 diff and am about to replace the 2.76 ratio for a 3.23 ratio, I was told this will now affect the speedo reading. Can anyone advise me what teeth numbers are required for the speedo gear to...

    2.76 Diff Ratio

Thanks Dart77, It looks like you've done some homework on this, I too got the same replies from a couple of "diff specialists", what's an 8 3/4 mate???, but the bloke doing the diff rebuild for me knew what an 8 3/4 is and has done them before, but not changed ratio's, when he inquired with his...

    2.76 Diff Ratio

I found the Nitro Agent here, (Black Diamond Auto Dismantlers) he is actually only 40 minutes from where I live in Adelaide, interestingly I did not know he was an agent, guess I will be calling him first thing Monday. Thanks for the information, I'll keep you posted on how I go.

    2.76 Diff Ratio

Thanks everyone, that's good information. I am having the diff done by an expert, I live in Australia and there are not too many Diff specialists in Adelaide that know much about the 8 3/4, from what I have been told it appears we did not have them in any Chrysler cars here?. The Company...

    2.76 Diff Ratio

Cheers for that Adam, I have since found 3.23 ratio gears made by Yukon, these are sold by Summit so I would hope they too will fit in a 489 housing.

    2.76 Diff Ratio

Hi not sure if this question has been asked previously, does anyone make NEW 2.76 gears for an 83/4 489 Diff. Also if I was to change to 3.55, (because this all I have been able to find from most suppliers) will these fit in my housing, some research I have done has said they won't fit because...

I reckon WA and SA are pretty much on par with regs tough as. Thanks for the info about Mopar Central, fortunately I have all my parts now and you are dead right sometimes the freight costs more than the parts, I bought most of my parts from Classic Industries and a few from YearOne and bits and...

Thanks to all for making me feel welcomed, its not an easy job restoring an American car here in Australia as most of the parts have to travel halfway around the world, I reckon I could have built another half a Cuda with the freight cost so far, anyway I can see why you guys get so hooked on...

    New Member From Adelaide Australia

Hi All, I have a matching numbers 1974 Cuda which I have been restoring for the last few years and it is almost complete, the Cuda came into Australia in 1998 and I purchased it from the second owner here in Australia in 2011, it was in a really bad state and required a total resto. It appears...
