gear vendors overdrive

anyone using a gear vendors overdrive unit on a big block with a 727 tran? any special cutting or fabricating required for the installation? thanks

Yes. The GV unit hits the sheet metal cross support above the trans. This is the same support that the torsion bars plug into, so you cannot eliminate it, unless you go with a new front suspension set up.

However, the cross support can be cut down to reduce it's sidewall height and welded back together, if that makes sense....

In either case you may want to put in other reinforcements if you cut/modify the cross member. For the cost of the GV unit you may want to consider a swap.

Hello. You may want to consider a GM 4 speed automatic transmissions - some of the good restorers are moving in this direction - 4L60 or 4L65 rather than the gear vendor unit. I will be putting one in my E body Cuda that is being restored. After doing a lot of research seems to be the best option for a 4 speed automatic. Hard to swallow using a GM but want the best option for my car

..will a GM tranny fit behind a 340 cui ?? Is the bolt pattern the same ?
