I am replacing my driver's side mirror with a sport mirror that has the remote cables. It looks like I will need to drill a 3/4" hole under the mirror for the remote cables and control knob. Is that correct or is there a secret to removing the remote knob and drilling a smaller hole?

No there is no secret way to remove the knob. remove the nut and the metal retainer, check the size of the diameter of the knob. I would use A step drill bit if you have one, I think they make A cleaner hole, and you should be fine.

I went back to the shop prepared to work on the door and to my surprise it has the hole already from the factory even though it did not come with the remote mirror. Now I just need to get a location for the hole in the interior panel for the control knob.
