I've got a TR5 tunnel ram intake coming my way for the 340 I'm building for my 73 Cuda and am looking for suggestions, been there done thats, ideas, etc for a hood scoop to keep the motor covered. I'm not opposed to having the carbs sticking through the hood but, before I commit to just a hole I want to see what my options might be and what has been done before. I currently have a fiberglass AAR hood and the stock twin scoop rallye hood, neither of which I'm excited to cut up. I've got a line on a standard flat hood, that I would cut a hole in and/or mount a scoop of some type on. I like the AAR style hood and am trying to envision what that would look like tall enough to enclose a tunnel ram? I imagine I'll be gaining 4"-5" in height but I don't have it yet to measure. Keeping with Mopar theme is a goal. I'd go with something commercailly available or more likely form it myself from fiberglass or sheet metal. Appreciate any pics you have or suggestions. So far my searches haven't come up with a winner that looks good on an E-body.

Here are two very common examples that are functional. The blackout hood has a more genuine feel to it - IMO.

Of course you can go old school cheap and mount a mailbox on the carbs - LOL. No, please don't.

The first one is a bit too much but the one on the right wouldn't bother me. Hard to see with the shadow if that is an A12 Road Runner scoop or like the one they used on the Hemi Darts.

I made a custom shaker for my set up. Extended the hood opening, the base and the scoop 2", raised the scoop 5-1/2" and opened up the nostrils 2-1/2" taller to clear my dual 1050 Dominator and tunnel ram.

Thanks! I remember seeing that a while ago and was my inspiration for modifying the standard. Kind of considering something similar by raising an AAR scoop that way. I picked up a nice condition flat hood on Saturday. I have some measurements off the intake to guesstimate how high above the hood line the carbs would end up. Just ran across a raised fiberglass AAR on Ebay today. They do them in regular, 4", 6", and 9". This is the 4" in the pic. I might be able to live with that. I'd try my hand forming from sheet metal before I bought one. Stubborn that way.
