What do you use to insulate/deaden the roof under the headliner and under the carpet? I know about the jute but was wondering if anyone has ever used a line-x type product? A friend suggested it but I have never seen done in a car. Any economical substitutes that have worked? Thanks.

Economical substitutes? How economical are you talking? There's several products on the market for insulating and sound deadening purposes.

You have:
Dynamat
Hush Mat
Fat Mat
Peel N Seal

Just to name a few.

You can also use do-it-yourself products like rolls of thin aluminum backed insulation available at the big box chain hardware stores with a little spray adhesive.

A line-x type thing would work, but I wouldn't do it to your car. just my opinion. I have used these products before, they are messy, and a headache.
I would recommend using a product like ramenth suggests.

I personally use Dynamat. Just my 2 cents.

I need to replace my headliner and I was considering ductwrap under the roof. I have a roll of it it`s one and a half inches thick with a foil face on it anyone ever try it or is this a bad idea?You can buy a 50 to 100 foot roll for around $75 or try a local sheet metal or insulating shop and see if you can buy a chunk it should cost next to nothing.I wouldnt use it on floors that would be a bad idea you don`t want it getting wet or it will smell like a fish house!

Someone suggested that foil backed bubble wrap insulation that you find at the hardware store for the roof. Ever tried it? Same person says that they use the hard undercoating in a couple of layers on the floor followed by the typical jute pad. I know about Dynamat but it is expensive. There is a cheaper type at the paint store that I think 3m makes. It looks very thin.

I have used the 3M stuff before, it is thinner, but it did the job of what it was supposed to do.

there is a fiberglass insulation panel used in suspended ceilings that works well, just peel off the white stuff and cover with some plastic of some kind(garbage bag)
