    Stuck Correct Key- Wont return to release position

    If yours is a 1970 floor shift model, it may be the linkage that moves the lower collar on the column has too much play in it, resulting in the collar not returning all the way to release the lock cylinder. Maybe a link came loose?

    Get the numbers that are stamped on the pan rail to verify which transmission it is, and then order one for that model.

    vin stamping on engine

    Is the casting date correct for a 1971? If so, probably ok. Not every stamp was made perfectly. That first 1 digit might have taken a hit at one time to make that horizontal line.

    Different part number, so, probably not.

    No problem as long as your measurements are correct. 254mm is like new (10.00") 256.29 is 10.090".

    Vin and engine number

    Factory screw-ups happened from time to time. I once had a '74 Charger that had a WP19 beginning to the VIN plate on the dash instead of WP29. There are no 19 body style codes. All the rest of the numbers of the VIN matched the engine, trans, door (with WP29), core support, etc.
