Sorry I don't know how they got the transmission out to be honest. I only heard it was a bit complicated as the tunnel was in the way. But when the noise changed from clutch activated to permanent (depending on temperature as far as I could observe) transmission was still mounted as it has been...
After almost an eternity an update! Shop diagnosed most probably the throwout bearing to be the problem so I ordered one.
Meanwhile I went for a test drive and had to realize the ticking had become persistent. 🙈. At least for the moment.
Last week I brought them the car for installation of the...
Yes, ammeter has been disconnected already by a former owner, so I have now both original bulkhead wires separately fused, basically diagram C from post #10.
Pin 30 of the relay has the thick blue wire connected to the starter relay, Pin 87 is going to original headlight wiring (both AWG 12), whites are coming from bulkhead original wires.
But you have a point. Between starter relay and battery=alternator the wire is thinner 🤔 I might change that to...
Meanwhile as I'm afraid to go longer distances due to clutch noises I had time for the remaining electrical stuff.
Instead of the non functional radio I made a panel with a cheap voltage meter and some switches for future usage and relocated the self made backup light here.
Also the...
Ok will try it but can only do by next week when going home 👍🏼
The reason why I'm asking is also because originally it was a 3 speed manual and I have no idea what had to be changed for the 4 speed. But let's see what is really needed in the end...
Get moving feels pretty much the same as always; it’s only the noise that stands out. I still need to test it again next week — the last time I parked it in the garage, the noise disappeared. I also have a shop appointment next week so they can take a look, but it’s good to have a few clues I...
Hi all,
After a drive where I occasionally used the clutch a bit more "firmly", everything still felt and sounded normal. I then parked the car for 1–2 hours, and only when setting off again did I notice a new ticking noise. At first, I suspected an exhaust leak, as I thought I could also hear...
Hi,
reporting back after all parts have arrived and have been installed. New alternator, regulator, 35mm2 and 4mm2 battery cables, some fuse boxes.
Now we're talking... 😁
The original alternator cable has been detoured to starter relay with 4mm2 wire and a 20A fuse for now, let's see if that...
Thanks for your detailed reply. I went through it once more today and can basically confirm everything but two points:
1-5: OK, Battery at 12.49V, Alt 12,48V, no V at fields key off.
6: field blue OK 12.36V, field green 0,4V!!
7: jumper wire has no effect on battery voltage.
Ground from battery...
Hi,
I measured resistance of ground from battery to block, to alternator screws, to alternator case, to VR... Everywhere around 1 Ohm...ish.
Then from battery positive directly to alt main plug the same. I left out bulkhead path for now due to limited time and space, and as there is the shunt...
Hi,
70 Challenger 383, I have a feeling that the charging system has been bad for years now, but wonder how it was possible to not really notice it. I try to make a long story short. First of all, I don't drive very much unfortunately, maybe 1000km a season, usually I charge the battery and it...
