My 73 did not have any bearing at the end just a foam seal to help keep dust dirt and wind from coming up into the column. The steering box will hold the shaft in the correct location.
I have the same brakes on my Barracuda but drilled and slotted rotors. The car stops great, very hapy with the disc brakes. Did you also buy the proportioning valve from the donor vehicle?
I had another 73 barracuda that was drag raced and had the same "kink" in that spot but only on the passenger side. On my car, I think it was from drag racing.

My 73 used the top picture. Three bolts and metal clips that are mounted to the lower valance out of sight below the grille and the two screws on each end with metal clips.
