For both the 340 and 727 sold as a single purchase I’m asking $10k or trade for Thruxton RS, retro RNineT or R18 or custom retro motorcycle.
Both the engine and transmission had just been delivered ready for installation when the owner was diagnosed with stage four and passed very quickly never having the health and time to finish his dream build.
A close friend of mine, Bob Mutchler of motorcycle notoriety remembered for raising a million dollars for child polio research through his BMW motorcycle sponsorship winner of the Iron Butt motorcycle award and a victim of childhood polio himself, purchased the engine and transmission from his deceased friend’s estate. The build for both the motor and the 727 came in at $23k - $24k by the time it arrived at the shop ready for installation. Being close friends with the original owner Bob had personally seen the build receipts but his friend’s widow, in the chaos of her husbands sudden passing, was never able to locate and provide Bob with the build sheet. Bob said he wasn’t too concerned over it because he had seen the receipts over the duration of the build and planned to use it in his own build never intending to sell it anyways.
It was through the sale of Bobs business warehouse in downtown Sacramento where he restored, repaired and tuned grand pianos for entertainers such as Elton John and Stevie Wonder that I came to own the powertrain. Bob’s warehouse had to be emptied on very short notice and Bob being in his 70s at the time had no plans to initiate another build.
Bob is an affable person but when it comes to builds and restorations he is a “Type A” straightforward man who is meticulous in every endeavor he commits his time to. He has a mechanical eye relentless in its pursuit of understanding and servicing all things mechanical. He isn’t one to exaggerate or embellish the expanse of his knowledge. His typical response is measured, disciplined and he corroborates his knowledge.
I can provide an experienced and mechanically skilled buyer a grace period to inspect the motor and transmission within their own shop environment or one of their choosing to verify that everything is as described. It truly is a magnificent motor and I am excited to learn of the build it’s destined to breathe life into.
An additional option is to arrange an in-person dynamometer test. That would have to be arranged at a shop near Chico, CA. I believe Craig Hanson still preforms Dynamometer tests at his motorcycle racing technology shop in the town of Paradise, CA which is nearby. He has an excellent reputation for performance modification and development, as a mechanical engineer and master machinist with a solid reputation Craig would be my first choice in such matters.
I apologize for the long post, but I value integrity and transparency and want to be clear that I will stand behind this motor and transmission. I believe that honest people practice those values in their personal and professional lives. This motor and transmission is phenomenal. It was built for street performance at 500hp but can make 600hp depending on the desired application and set up. For an experienced and knowledgeable buyer, expectations will surely be met or surpassed.
If interested I am happy to arrange a time to inspect the motor and transmission in-person. With some notice we can arrange the dynamometer test If it’s not the best fit for your needs, I wish you the best fortune in your build and thank you for your interest in my ad.
Sincerely,
RDH
