Whatever... Guess you could just keep beating your head against the wall by doing the same thing over and over with the same results or take a step back and actually do some simple troubleshooting
Not sure if it was mentioned earlier, but make sure the bolts aren't too long for some reason. If that's the case the bolts would just be bottoming out rather than applying the correct clamping force when torqued down.
Just one man's opinion, but as someone who's serviced drum brakes over the years on cars, trucks, trailers, and bikes, I firmly believe the world would be a better place without them.
Unfortunately Espo Spring is out of the leaf spring business. They were a great source.
"ESPO Springs n Things is not going out of business, just discontinuing leaf springs as we run out of product to do them. We specialize in new coil springs, shackles, spring bushings, u-bolts and front end...
Crushed brake line going to the rear brakes is a possibility.
The brake line is routed past the lift point you used. If it were crushed completely without cracking the line it would have the same effect as putting a plug in the rear master cylinder port. Instant hard brake pedal since most of...
You need to find someone that specializes in vinyl repair. The upholstery shops I contacted trying to find someone to fix a dash pad I had out of a Cuda wouldn't touch it either. I ended up finding a guy who ran an independently owned business as part of the "Fibrenew" franchise. He did a great...
If the timing chain jumped a tooth retarding the cam, the ignition timing will be way off as well since the distributor is driven by the camshaft. Something to look for.
Have you considered the possibility of a blocked exhaust? Maybe a heat riser valve stuck shut? Or along those lines an EGR valve that's stuck open.. or since you had mentioned messing around with the vacuum lines early on, maybe inadvertently hooking a vacuum line that has full manifold vacuum...
"I added a ton of premium fuel and additives over that 1400 mile trip"
Those additives likely consisted of a fair amount of alcohol that may have caused any rust in the fuel tank to let loose and find it's way to the carb. Not saying you didn't rebuild the carb correctly, but it's easy to leave...
If the oiling holes to the valvetrain were blocked off, that would actually raise the oil pressure. Plus the valvetrain would be toast by now so probably not the problem. Chances are an internal leak is lowering the pressure. Since you've swapped oil pumps probably not a problem with the oil...
Don't wait too long to order it. I think they had been out of stock on these things for quite a while before getting them back in. I ordered and installed one a few weeks ago. No problems at all with it.
3M adhesive spray on both sides. Don't be in a hurry. Follow the directions and allow the spray to get tacky. Once it stuck down, place some small welding magnets on the overlay in a few places. The magnets do a great job of clamping the aluminum overlay to the metal backing plate. Prior to...
Sounds like you've pretty much exhausted the "throwing parts at it" method of troubleshooting.
:)
I'd suggest finding a competent shop that does diagnostics and have them hook up an oscilloscope to the engine. Misses at idle are usually simple to diagnose. It's the intermittent misses or the...
