I had a similar problem with my 71 Challenger 340, although it factory electronic ignition. Turned out to be bad ground on ignition module to firewall. I scratched the paint off where the screw attached the module to the firewall and it fired right up. Like the other posts, i would check...
I have one that I believe came out of a 'cuda 440 car in with the factory "coin". I'll look at it closely and take some photos...I was going to list it for sale soon but haven't had the time.

Found one on ebay. Thanks for looking. I need the drivers door 3 terminal pin switch for dome light. The 3 terminal switch was a 71 only switch for challenger and I'm not sure of other cars it would have been used on. I need one to finish my challenger restoration. Thanks, Brian
Got one...Thanks....I need an original OEM trim molding for a '70 challenger RT hood. I am restoring my '71 with a "70-71" hood from AMD, but learned that my '71 hood trim won't work because the AMD hood is really a '70. The hoods are identical from the top, but the '71 hood was slightly...
Randy, I appreciate you checking. I have a pristine '71 Dart driver's side 340 exhaust manifold which I bought as a set to get the correct passenger side for my Challenger. I'll be selling the Dart manifold while I continue to look for the correct driver's side casting# 3418621 with late '70...
The 1971 E-body cars used a new for 71 drivers side exhaust manifold which was a log style design with a rear dump (casting# 3418621). I looking for that casting# with an early 71 (or late 70) date stamp. Please let me know if you have one for sale.
Thanks,
Brian
I'm looking for an OEM dipstick for my 71 challenger 340. I don't want one of the chrome aftermarket dipsticks. Please let me know if you have one for sale or know where I can get an OEM dipstick.
Thanks,
Brian
Can anyone confirm that Dodge offered a the hood blackout decal for the 71 Challenger RT? Most of the 71's that I've seen just have the "R/T" decal as did my '71. I'm nearing the end of a 2 year restoration and would like to go with the blackout decal but only if it was a ligitimate option in...
I'm looking for a replacement heater box for my '71 Challenger. I need a non-A/C box. I have the original but the plastic is broken. I may be able to fix mine but I thought I would see if I could find a replacement.
Thanks,
Brian
Good thought...It does seem like a vacuum leak. I have the TQ on the workbench now checking every part of it for a problem. I'm going to be distracted with my job the next week or so, so I won't have much time to mess with this, but I will post my progress and maybe some pictures when I get a...
Carburetor restoration by Pony
Pony Carburetors in New Mexico restored the carburetor...it cost about $500 for a "concourse plated restoration". I will keep posting my progress here. The restoration was in 2007 and was paid for by the former owner of the car and was never installed until I...
Thanks
Thanks for the input. I'm going to try and figure out the Thermoquad. I'm think there must be something not set right on it. If anyone else has any thoughts or knows of a website dedicated to tuning a thermoquad, please let me know. Thanks again.
Guys,
I just put an original intake manifold and Thermoquad carb on my stock '71 340 Challenger RT 4spd, and I can't get it to run correctly. The manifold and TQ carb are both the correct model number for the 4spd application and the TQ had a high-dollar professional "concourse" restoration to...
The R/T 340 4spd was a fairly rare combination. in 70 and 71, the 340 was a high performance 10.5:1 compression engine making 275 HP. It ran close to the 383 in the 1/4 mile and was not far behind the 440.
Hi guys, I just bought a 71 challenger with a 340-4bbl/4sp. It came with an Edlebrock intake manifold/carb installed, but I also got a correct model number stock intake/thermoquad (restored) in the deal. My question is "can anyone send me some closeup pictures of a thermoquad installed on a 71...
Picture of Thermoquad choke
Great story and pictures. I have a 71 challenger 340/4spd that I am trying to get back to original with a restored thermoquad. My problem is I don't have the choke yet and I have not idea how the choke is installed in the manifold and how the linkage is hooked to...
