    RTV on Valve Cover Gaskets

In my experience aluminum valve covers are always hard to seal!! Lack of flexing like Chryco said is one problem, another is i had a set of aluminum Edlebrock brand big block valve covers and i noticed that the lip where the gasket goes is way narrower on them than on the stock valve covers...

    Engine Temp Incresing

What is the temp once warmed up sitting still ? Is it ok then or also too hot. Another problem i have heard about is with some new hoses they collapse ...i think an OEM bottom hose has a spring in it to prevent collapsing.

    New Build 440 overheating

My two cents. I agree with Physco that a good engine driven fan can create a much greater air flow that electric fans. HOWEVER, at Idle the engine driven fan simply isn't spinning fast enough to cool a High Performance engine with high performance camshaft. So, the most effective system is...

    More cooling for my T/A

First, according to Motor Trend magazine, glycol based antifreeze has a thermal efficiency about 20 percent less than plain water. So a 50/50 mixture of water and glycol based antifreeze is about 10% less efficient than plain water. However, plain water is not a good idea as, yes, it is...

    Sudden Inability to start.

Ballast resistors are known to go bad, leaving the key on till battery goes completely dead isnt good for any of the electronics, including the ballast resistor. Replace it and only if it goes bad again...for no reason...should you worry about it.

Question on difference between 518 R46r and 46re

i also have an a518 and had trouble getting the neutral safety switch to work for reverse. Had to try 3 different ones before i got one to work. The one out of my original 904 would not work. cant remember which brand i bought that did.

FOR SALE 2013 Challenger R/T Classic Plum Crazy

I guess im just stupid. But could someone explain to me why a 9 year old car would sell for more than a brand new one ? Here in NC a dealer has a 2021 (already 1 model year old) new RT challenger on sale for $37,200. Ok, so it has the very nice looking factory wheels and not Cragars and...

    Royal Purple Trans Fluid?

I put an A518 into my 74 challenger with 360/408 engine it came out of a 92 van. If I pull the transmission dip stick and read it it says use Chrysler ATF plus or Dexron II fluid. So, to find "plain ole ATF plus or Mercon or Dexron II equivalent fluid" i went to Walmart and bought...

    gear vendors or 518?

Gear Vendors or an A518 are BOTH longer than the original 727, so Either way you will need your driveshaft cut and rebalanced. Cost me $200 here in NC. I went the A518 route and while its a lot of work it works great !! I did have to make driveline angle change as the A518 sits lower in...

What junk yard transmission can I pluck and slap in?

Or pull your 904 and rebuild it yourself!!!! Rebuilt kit consisting of new clutches and seals runs right around $150. There is a 904 rebuild video on youtube thats gives you step by step instructions. Assuming it has never been touched before, and just needs a simple rebuild of the...

Challenger 440 Center Link Rubbing Oil Pan

Another option is to lower the center link bar!! How? Simple, loosen the three bolts holding the steering box to the frame, and put a small shim in at the top and tighten back down. An 1/8 inch shim at the top will give at least 1/4 or more at the bottom end. This will change the angle...

    Seat height?

I also have thigh clearance problem, right now my seat to wheel clearance is only about 4 1/4 inches when the seat is full back...more if i pull the seat forward but i'm 6'1" and long legged. Reason i have even less is that I installed a 6 way power seat into my 74 Challenger. The power seat...

    Broken pushrod

I may be wrong, but on a small block i do not understand why a broken push rod would cause zero oil pressure. On the small blocks the oil does NOT go thru the push rod anyways. You might have more problems than that !!!

    Starting Restoration

Tag and Bag with pictures is good advice. My personal feeling on the glass is that the door and rear quarter glass is .... LEAVE THEM IN... When i did my 74 Challenger i covered that glass on both sides and left them in and they suffered no damage !! Installing glass is one of the most...

    Optimal Rear End

I was going to give you the link to the RPM Speed Calculator, but, it uses adobe flashplayer which can no longer be used. In my case with my 360/408 and Lunati Voodoo cam i ended up installing a 3.23 sure grip along with my 14" (25" tall tires) and the A518 overdrive Torqueflite. I like...

spark plugs - hard to find

yours looks the same as mine...Patriot long tube headers.... Yes, the last two plugs (#5 and #7) are a @#$%^^ to get out and replace. On mine, i first put the plugs i'm going to use into the #1 cylinder and tighten it down to about 25 ft-lbs to "precrush" the washer. Then i use the...

    Advice on AC

I have a 74 Challenger...original factory a/c car. Replaced it with a Vintage Air and it works well, and was easy to install and it includes a new heater that works well also. On the interior you cannot tell it from factory. Only thing I don't like about it, is that they do not allow for...

Head volume effects on compression ratio

I dont know much about heads, but, Summit racing has a compression calculator... See.. Compression Calculator you just need the bore and stroke, piston type...i.e. flat top dished or domed CC, depth of piston in block, CC of the head, and gasket thickness. Its really cool because with...

    Oil pressure

you do NOT have to change out your pump!! On a big block oil pump the maximum pressure is regulated by a spring... I think the standard oil pump spring is set to 65 psi max... Easy to change...simply unscrew the big ( i think 1" bolt head) at the back of the pump and pull out the spring and...

    Headliner.

First, i agree...somewhere in the $400-$700 US range is about normal for just labor. It does take even an experienced installer the better part of a day to perform the install and that is with a "helper" for at least 2-4 hours. At $50 an hour there goes a quick $400 or better and another...
