Idr, thanks for the reply. Tried to P.M. you but your inbox is full.

I've got one that supposedly came from a 70' Barracuda. How do I tell for sure? Also have one that is a bit dirtier that was supposed to be from a 70 Challenger. I'd sell either but don't know how to check them.

K Frame Identification

There should be a small round or oval "coin" on the front with a 2 digit number stamped in it. That will be the K-Member part number. There is also a very small 4 digit number stamped near it. Those small numbers is the date. The date will be like 3229 = 322nd day of 1969.

Here's the 1970-71 K-Frame numbers

10 #2962010 Crossmember (K-Frame) 225 Engine
12 #2962012 Crossmember (K-Frame) 318, 340 & 383 Engines
14 #2962014 Crossmember (K-Frame) 426 Hemi w/ Skid
52 #3583052 Crossmember (K-Frame) 318, 340, 340 T/A & AAR, & 383 Engines
70 #3583070 Crossmember (K-Frame) 198 & 225 Engines
74 #3583074 Crossmember (K-Frame) 318, 340, 383 & (440 w/ Skid) Engines
76 #3583076 Crossmember (K-Frame) 426 Hemi w/ Skid
77 #3466477 Crossmember (K-Frame) 318, 383 & 440 (440 w/ Skid) Engines

I am not sure that they all had the "coin". I have an original '71 383 and 340 that do not. They have the stamping but no coin.

Not all k-members had the coins though; some had the part number applied using what looked like a rubber stamp or stencil of some kind. (As per Barry Washington)

This one has the coin with 52 stamped on it. Thanks for the info!!!! Since this car has a bent up K-member from the accident, I should be ok to find a correct date member and replace the coin with this one or add it right? Not like I'm trying to fake anything.

I would not worry so much if you needed to add the coin to another k frame. Remember that there is also a date code on the k frame (left of center also) which may or may or may not match up time frame wise with your build date anyway. The 52 k frame was common; used with 318, 340 and 383 engines. You may get lucky and find one with the same "key" part number. Unless you are building a rare Mopar and are a stickler for originality; I would not worry. JMO

Thanks 340! I'm not going to beat myself up trying to find a totally date correct one as long as it's correct for the car. Thanks.
