Is the front and rear bumper fillers mandatory or our cars? What's the advantage / disadvantage? If so who makes the best ones? Mine is a 1971 convertible. Thanks
challenger6pk is correct, the 70-71 cars had no filler panels.
The 70-71 Challengers had a metal L shaped panel welded below the tail lights, most likely to shed water away from the car and was behind the rear bumper.
Newer Challengers had a rubber/vinyl filler panel when the 5MPH bumpers were added along with additional bracing to fill in the space when the bumpers were pushed out from the car on the front and the rear.
Wording from Year One:
Rear bumper filler for 1970-1971 Dodge Challenger, all models.
Made from 19-gauge cold-rolled steel and laser trimmed to original dimensions.
The 71 front bumpers have the rubber corners. Chrysler called them something else. I did not know you were referring to them. The 71 does not have the rear filler. That is 70 only. The rear tail light housing in 71 in flared at the bottom to form a bumper filler.
1970 Always something new to learn.
Interesting that only the 70 Challenger had the welded rear metal filler panel, and not the 71?
The rubber inserts were in the corners of the front bumper as stated.

I'm sure I have a set around the shop. I'll let you know if I come across a set. It's been 115* in the shop lately. Not doing too much out there at this time.
