OK, I'm losing my memory! I remember I guy posting a thread on a new aluminum bellhousing/case to bolt a 46rh/A518 to a big block. It had to be here on FEBO or on FCBO because those are the only two websites I belong to? Does anyone remember this? I wanted to follow up and see how it worked out with the parts installed. He had a video link posted as well. Thanks if anyone can help me.

Currently I'm adapting a JW bellhousing to a A518 case. But if it was al

Yes, that's what I'm currently building (using #92457) and it did come with grade 8 bolts which I swapped out with grade 9 (even stronger). By the way, grade 9 5/16" bolts are stronger than the grade 5 3/8" bolts holding the bellhousing to the block! Theoretically a one piece design should be stronger. But, heck, if it can survive behind your 540" Hemi, it will survive behind anything I'll build! 😀 Thanks for posting, I feel much better about the Ultra-Bell path now!

The Ultra Bells are SFI certified, are far stronger than the original cast bells, and have been around for years so we know that they hold up. What more would one need to know?

The supplied grade 8 bolts are being threaded into cast aluminum and enjoyed the SFI certification. Changing to grade 9 bolts seems overkill, but.....................

You keep referring to a 'one piece' which doesn't exist and there is no higher rating in racing than the SFI certification so I don't understand what you're basing your opinion on. How can you compare something that doesn't exist with something that has the highest rating in the racing industry?

What application do you plan for your 518 that you worry would over stress the Ultra Bell?

At one point JW made an Ultra Case for Torqueflites, but it still used a separate Ultra Bell; same as their Powerglide Ultra Case does. The beauty of that is you don't need any kind of shield, so no tunnel fitment issues. I spoke with them about the TF case around 2010 and they said, "yes we have it, but we don't recommend it" without elaborating. But there's no trace of it on their site anymore and it's not in any of their older catalogs that I have, so it must have gone defunct.

There was a gentleman that had a video where he unpacked a housing that would bolt to a big block and had previsions to bolt on the factory overdrive tail shaft. He was evaluating the housing and going to install the internals and give another report. I was looking to follow up as I get distracted with lots of things besides cars! I responded to the original post, but can't remember where it was. Believe me, I have a lot of knowledge of castings and forgings and one piece is always stronger than two pieces! But with @540HemiCuda using the Ultra-Bell bolted to the front pump of a 518 kinda proves itself strong enough! I plan on bolting a 518 onto a 440 with about 525 horsepower. Which should be a lot less stress on the transmission than a 540" Hemi! 😀
