i bought a 340 engine , it came with freshened x heads still in bags from the machine shop. i recently bought a edelbrock performer intake to use when i get the motor put together . with the heads sitting on the block the intake will not properly set down on the heads, this leads me to think the heads have been milled.. is there any way to check this ? phil

Can you post a photo of this?
the block could have been milled as well.

Are you sure?
I know on the 360 engine there is a big gap on purpose. I think... if I remember there's a closed channel under the intakes egr that releases heat through the gap.
Alot of people mistake it for the intake not fitting properly...
I've never worked on a small block before I just remember seeing a mopar budget build episode on Horsepower lol
Also... not sure if that aspect is the smae with the 340's and 360's

What gap are you taking about? And I don't understand "Aspect"
The horse shoe shape or semi circle above the intake manifold is there on purpose. You are correct.
