Is Galen not trustworthy? He’s slow to respond and slow to fill orders but does that mean he can’t be trusted??
Good friend of mine has a 69 hemi daytona that sometime over the years someone found the buildsheet to it in a different car... they sent it to Galen... my friend reached out wanting to know how he can get it back with the car and Galen said 25k will do it... pretty dirty if you ask me... read about it more here..

A new chapter in the life of an unrestored Hemi Daytona - Page 3

Sorry to distract from original thread... I really dont think your rough original is that bad... will look better painted

Galen has been in this business in such a long time. He decoded my first Cuda in 1998, still have the receipt of what he charged. He is now 67 years old, only goes to places where high priced originals are being negotiated. Spoke with the person in his office, she said he does not travel anymore to any shows, just to certify a car. Like every one of us, time has, or is catching up with us. Time for new people to pick up the torch. I did shop around and per recommendation, I contacted MMC and a couple others and will go with them. My philosophy has always been that if I am paying the money, they are supposed to provide the advertised service, nothing more.

They did for a short time back in.... 2006? Probably stopped after getting a cease and desist order.
Spoke with David, he said that they did, then the government stuck it's nose in and made it virtually impossible. Still looking. Thank you for the message. This forum has been absolutely awesome.... compared to some others. Always willing to help.

Regarding Galen, the story I read was he had someone's build sheet of a very rare car and instead of just giving it to the rightful owner. He was trying to get $25k for it! There other situations online as well. I talked to him on the phone back in the 90s and he seemed OK then. We were discussing my 70 WSS. He does seem to be pain stakeningly slow with orders as of late. On the other hand, I've never heard any negatively regarding Dave Wise and MCC Detroit.
Actually, the 3D printed Fender tag deplayed next to the original would be a good option.

Back in 2015, I had backup fender tags made by "AG Backeast" (Brett Stoutenberg) for each of my cars. The quality was outstanding as they looked exactly like the originals minus the 50 years of wear and corrosion. In 2015, the cost was $175 per tag and the turnaround was roughly a week. I believe AG Backeast is still in business.

There is a good amount of back story on the Galen 25K thing. Suffice it to say, Galen was responding to some rude behavior, and was not serious. The whole matter was blown out of proportion, went viral in the Mopar circles and still makes for good discussion among the forums.

I also had them make a reproduction tag for me. It was steel, and an exact copy of my original. The font & spacing were perfect. They did require proof and wouldn’t just make a tag based on what I wanted. I keep the original with the title and build sheet; the repro tag has small machine screws with nyloc nuts on the bottom so it doesn’t disappear at a car show.

The re-made fender tags look fake, and you can tell it's not original. Consider posting an image of your current fender tag so we can see how bad these holes are. Your car may be worth more with a damaged fender tag than a with newly remade one.
I had a new tag made a few years for my A body Dart Swinger and it was 100% correct and perfect and the exact stamping dies were used and done in the correct tin metal.

You can say that your car came with a fender tag delete.

Good morning, seems like a good conversation..... Here is an update

I spoke with Dave and sent him a pic of my tag. Just received a reply that they can re-produce the tag to its original state. The Package is called the Wise Premium Package

Cost - $425 _ $15 UPS shipping cost
Turnaround time - approximately 20 days
If funds are not received within 20 days of submitting the request, any and all docs that are sent are deleted - which is good

Based on the e-mail, It said Dave was a car specialist at Barret-Jackson - which is good to know.

In contrast, I was told Galen is between $500-$600 per Tag..... so about the same.

If anyone has any others to suggest, please do so.

Regards,

Karnik
